Rewiring for the New Year?

December 30th, 2010 Comments off

RewiringOne of your New Year’s resolutions may involve home improvement projects, such as rewiring a house. While we feel all rewiring upgrades should be done by a licensed electrician – such as our trusted Dallas electricians – we know many of you want to make this a do-it-yourself project in an effort of saving money.

This project has so many intricate steps that it’s best to have a professional handle it. You must be able to check and remove the breaker box, connect and reconnect switches, peel insulation and be on point with the number of wires needed.

If you still plan on making this one of your projects, here are a couple things you should know. Best of luck to you.

  • Be smart and prepared: Wear proper safety gear (goggles, gloves, etc.) when you’re working on projects such as this. Also, have the proper tools available (wires, wire cutters, cables, etc.)
  • Switch goes off: So that you won’t catch a nasty shock, make sure all electric power is turned off.
  • Do your homework: Make sure you know how many lights and switches are in the home before starting the project. Also, count the number of power outlets.

There are plenty other tips you can use for a rewiring project, and our Dallas TX electrical company is here to assist you with all your needs. Call us, or contact us online today for more information.

Resetting That Tripped Circuit Breaker

November 12th, 2010 Comments off

Circuit BreakerYour lights in your home all of a sudden don’t work, or that brand new TV you bought two weeks ago suddenly powered off. Don’t jump to conclusions and make that call to our professionals just yet. It might be something as simple as your resetting your circuit breaker.

First things first, turn it off. Understand that a circuit breaker may trip, or shut off and stop the flow of electricity in an effort to stop wiring from overheating. It may look like it’s on, but make sure you flip it to the off position.

From there, flip each breaker off and then back on again. After you’ve finished that, go back and see if your light switch, power outlet or whatever that originally failed you electrically is working again. If the power’s been restored, you not only fixed the problem but also saved some money in hiring an electrician. Congratulations!

If that didn’t do the trick, then maybe it is time to give us a call. Our electrical experts in Dallas TX can help you with any problem you have. Feel free to call us, or contact us online if you have questions.
